Narendra Modi to meet ministers today on price rise issues

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with his Council of Ministers on Friday to discuss about food prices, situation of monsoon in the country, among other issues.

The meeting is likely to be held at around 3 pm. The Ministers will brief the Prime Minister about prevailing food price situation, situation of monsoon and PDS (Public Distribution System) reforms, among others.

Among food items, the price of onion is on the rise and a similar trend is expected to be seen in other food items as monsoon this year is expected to be below normal, a senior Food Ministry official told PTI.

Food Ministry official said that steps to be taken to minimise the adverse impact of poor monsoon is also likely to figure in the discussions. Steps such as imposing minimum export price on onion, halting shipment of wheat from FCI godowns, among other measures, are expected to be discussed during the meeting.
