Development projects and environment will go hand-in-hand: Prakash Javadekar

PUNE: Union minister of state for environment Prakash Javadekar on Saturday said that there was no conflict between development projects and environment protection in India. He added that Narendra Modi led government will ensure that development is not halted because of environment clearance and environment is not damaged because of development projects.
Javadekar was speaking to reporters in Pune. When asked about fears expressed by environmentalists that Modi government was pushing for development projects without evaluating environment damages, Javadekar said that there were no such case.

" We want development and the government is putting all efforts to accelerate project works. However, we are also ensuring that environment does not bear brunt of projects" said Javadekar. He added that the government was committed to development which benefits common people. He also criticized activist Medha Patkar for the stand on Narmada dam height and said that the activist has been repeating same issues for all these years. He said that there was nothing new in Patkar's objections to the government's decision to raise the height of Narmada Dam.

Javadekar, however avoided making any political comments. He kept mum when asked about a rape complaint filed against Union minister of state Nihal Chand, the lone MP from Rajasthan. The woman had filed a complaint in 2011 at Vaishali Nagar which named Nihal Chand as one of the persons who sexually exploited her. A lower court Jaipur on Thursday had issued summons to 17 people, including him in this case.
