Gopinath Munde died of internal injuries, cardiac arrest, says post-mortem report

New Delhi: Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde may have died due to excessive internal bleeding and cardiac arrest minutes after his car collided with a Tata Indica at Aurobindo Marg in south Delhi around 6.20 am on Tuesday, claims his post-mortem report.

Though the post-mortem report of the late BJP leader has not been made official, it has been learnt that Munde suffered minor injuries externally and his rib cage got damaged due to the velosity of the collision.

It is also being reported that the minister's liver also got damaged, which resulted in excessive internal bleeding and cardiac arrest that led to his unfortunate death.

Dr Amit Gupta of the Trauma Centre had earlier told reporters, “Munde was brought to the emergency department of Jai Prakash Narain Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS, at 6:30 am by his personal assistant and driver. Munde was sitting in the backseat of his car which was hit by another car or any other vehicle at around 6:20 am from the side he was sitting,"

"On his arrival at the Trauma Centre, there was no spontaneous breathing, no blood pressure, no pulse, no cardiac activity. So immediately Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was started and continued for the next 15 minutes. Despite resuscitative measures, Munde could not be revived and was declared dead at 7:20 am," he said.

The doctor said, "Munde was hypertensive and a sugar patient. He was already taking medicines. Right now there are no major external injuries on his body. We cannot say anything but clinically we might say that he had a sudden cardiac death".

Minister's personal staff was also quoted as saying that the vehicle crashed into the car on the side that the minister was seated in the rear seat. Munde, who seemed to have suffered minor injuries, was in shock and asked for water.

Munde's driver and personal assistant were in the front and were unhurt. They rushed him to the trauma centre at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The doctors tried to revive the minister, but could not and pronounced him dead at 7.20 am.

Doctors have said Munde was diabetic and was being medicated for hypertension.

Munde's body will be taken to Mumbai, where people will pay their respects to the late leader between 6 pm and 12 midnight.

Tomorrow morning, his body will be flown to Latur and then taken to Parli in Beed district, Mr Munde's hometown.

Munde's last rites will be performed in Parli on Wednesday.
