Jayalalithaa, who is said to have good equations with Modi had
raised her objection to the invitation sent by the Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) to Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa for Modi's
swearing-in ceremony. The Tamil Nadu CM had skipped the event, which was
attended by high profile dignitaries, including all SAARC leaders.
Reports say that the equations between Jayalalithaa and Modi could
change if the newly-elected NDA government chooses to opt a different
line than AIADMK over the contentious Tamils issue.
On May 22, AIADMK chief had dubbed as "unfortunate" the PM-designate
Modi's invite to Rajapaksa, adding that the "ill-advised" move could
have been avoided as it amounted to "rubbing salt into the wounds of the
already deeply injured Tamil psyche."
